Unbroken

I reported about a month ago, complete with a nice photo, that ground had been broken on our new home. Imagine our surprise this morning when we drove by the site only to see that the hole is gone! It turns out that they hit a major electrical line on their first attempt, so they will be re-digging the hole about five feet farther back from the street. Except for the fact that I'm hoping this isn't a sign of things to come on this construction project, I actually think it's worked out in our favor. Although five feet isn't a lot, it will be nice to have an extra five feet of front yard and an extra five feet of driveway. Our lot is long and skinny anyway, so we won't miss the five foot loss from the back yard. According to the builder, they'll be re-breaking ground this week, if that is what you call it, and should pour the foundation shortly thereafter. Fingers are crossed with great anticipation!

Toys!

As I briefly mentioned in a previous post, Jack ended up getting a mountain of toys for Christmas this year from Santa, family, and friends. Although he received a wide variety of toys, the theme of his Christmas could best be summed up as "Trains!" The trains he received were divided between the die cast Thomas trains and GeoTrax, the latter being motorized and made of nice durable plastic. Here you can see Jack sitting in the middle of a track layout (while looking at some flash cards he also got for Christmas). What you see here is only a small portion of all the GeoTrax stuff he received. We've put everything together a couple of times, and it ends up stretching out to cover our entire kitchen! A small price to pay to listen to him giggle while he plays with his "choo-choos."

Christmas Cleanup

The holidays have come and gone as quickly as ever, and we've been trying to get the house back in order. Jack, as always, wanted to be right in the middle of all the action, so he was more than willing to help us vacuum up some of the pine needles left behind by our Christmas tree. We had a nice time this weekend ringing in the new year with friends, but now it's time to get back into the normal routine. Well, it won't be so normal for us...it's time to get down to business and get our house ready to go on the market. That means lots of packing, painting, and other not-so-fun projects. But, it will all be worth it in the end!
